Learning unit contents
This course consists of participating in the scientific events (conferences, seminars, study days, symposiums, etc.) offered by the Social and Cultural Anthropological Laboratory (LASC) throughout the academic year. This year, the cross-cutting theme will be ethics in anthropology.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Familiarise oneself with various anthropological fields, subjects and fieldwork based on research carried out by anthropologists in particular and other social science researchers. Be aware of the various anthropological debates, also in relation with other fields. Develop critical analysis skills. Be able to use one's methodological and theoretical knowledge to participate in scientific debates.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Passive knowledge of English.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Students are required to attend and participate in the events offered by LASC in the first and second quadrimester.
Recommended or required readings
Articles relating to the scientific events organized can be found on myULiège after each conference in the "Course materials" section. It is compulsory to read this literature. Students must also read and use the eight references indicated in the course material and two other scientific references that they will have to find on their own.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark is based on (1) participation in the scientific events, (2) reading and understanding related articles, and (3) a written essay (more information on myULiege in the "Course materials" section).
N.B.: no exam in January.
N.B.: Students must attend at least 5 units (1 conference = 1 unit; half-day workshop/symposium/study day = 1 unit).
Failure to do so will result in having to take the course again the following year.

Organizational remarks
The schedule of scientific events, credited in attendance units for this course, will be given as the events are organised. Announcements will be posted on the notice board opposite the FaSS office (B31) and sent by e-mail via myULiege. Students are required to sign an attendance list at each event so there is a record of the number of units they have attended.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session
Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning
-For all students a change of date for submitting the written composition : May 29th (instead of May 11th).
-For those to whom there are still presences to complete, the possibility to complete them with conferences + articles related to the conferences (to be viewed from home).

An addition of 2 conferences (plus 2 associated papers) or 1 conference (plus 1 associated paper) was made for some students who still had to complete their attendance at these scientific events.
