Preparation for the doctoral project

Programme content

Participants work under the guidance of a supervisor, a permanent member of the scientific of academic staff, whom they will have identified beforehand. They benefit from project management training and develop skills across the board, while exploring the university environment and culture.

Training programme

The training unfolds along two main lines:

  • Line 1: General and cross-disciplinary modules For 4 weeks, participants explore the various aspects of the doctorate and the occupation of reseacher. They learn how to use the tools that they will find indispensable for compiling their project and also meet their host research unit (UR).
  • Line 2: Stay at the host institution For the ensuing 8 weeks, participants work in a UR on defining and planning their doctoral project, while benefiting from the support of their supervisor and the infrastructure of their UR. They draw up the project and present it before a jury. They thus benefit from a specific apprenticeship, enter into dialogue with their peers and develop the basic skills of the occupation of researcher.

Evaluation and recognition

Participants are evaluated on the basis of their participation in seminars, involvement in their research team, research project and their presentation of this project to a specific jury. The University of Liège issues a certificate equivalent to 15 credits/ECTS. Please note that the awarding of the certificate is not a sufficient condition for admission to the doctoral programme.
