Job opportunities
Chemistry, parachemistry (pharmaceutics, biotechnology, etc.), materials (polymers, ceramics, glass, metals, etc., the environment (treatment and recovery of waste water and waste) and energy (fossil fuels, renewable and nuclear energy) are the principal industrial sectors for Engineers in Chemistry and Materials Science. These are growth areas with high levels of research and development and there is constant technological innovation.
The number of jobs available is very significant and increasing constantly. The chemical, plastics and pharmaceutical industries have created 1400 new jobs in Belgium in a period of two years, representing the highest growth in a decade.
The range of career options is very wide: design of industrial equipment and installations, operation and management of production units, consultancy in environment and quality management and, increasingly, research and development.
