Learning unit contents

This course will expose the student to the theoretical knowledge required by a veterinary general practitionner. The following chapters will be taught:
Introduction to veterinary anaesthesiology Preanaesthetic patient evaluation  Pharmaceutics Inhalational anaesthesia  PAthophysiology of anaesthesia Different steps of the anaesthetic Complications of anaesthesia and reanimation Evaluation and treatment of pain in animals Anaestesiology of various animal species (dogs, cats, horses, ruminants, swine, exotics, lab animals, wildlife and birds)

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this course, the student has aquired basic theoretical knowledge in veterinary anaesthesiology. 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

All theoretical and practical subjects in relation to veterinary anaesthesia given in the preceeding years. In-depth knowledge of following topics is required: anatomy and physiology of the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system, physiology of the cardiovascular and the respiratory system, pharmacology.
