Learning unit contents
The internship allows the student to meet professional oceanographers working either in a private company, association or a research group in a University. The stage consists of a stay of maximum 1 month in one of these institutions either in Belgium or abroad. A supervisor in the host institution will follow the work of the student. A list of institutions in which this stay can be realised will be made available to the students, although the student can also arrange a stay in another place. Internship are not retributed. In case of internship in a lab, it cannot be done in the same Research group than the master thesis nor on the same subject (but can be related).
Important: before the realisation of the internship, the student MUST obtain the agreement of the coordinator and the board of studies in oceanography.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objective of this internship is to provide the student with a professional experience, either in the private, academic or other.
The internship is not aimed at developing original research material but rather at obtaining practical knowledge in a specific topic. The topic must be distinct from the one chosen for the master thesis, although it can be complementary.

The activities must be determined by the supervisor at the host institution. An agenda can be established.

Assessment methods and criteria
At the end of the internship the student writes a report of 6-10 pages MAXIMUM describing the activities performed. The report must be understandable by any oceanographer and not only the experts on the topic chosen
Structure of the report is free but must contain an introduction, a description of hosting structure, objective and planned activity, activity report. If applicable, the activity report part can be structured as follow: a material & method, a result and a discussion sections.Last paragraph must contain a brief synthesis of acquired experience during the internship (scientific, social, etc.). Bibliographic references must be also included if cited in the text.
In addition, students must add a short section (1/2 page) where they auto-evaluate their internship (experience, professional perspective)
The student must send a pdf copy of the report to the coordinnator (2 weeks before the deliberation), which will forward it to the internship director and two Uliege moderators (Dr G. Lepoint et Dr. Aida Alvera Azcarate).
The jury will assess the report based on a series of criteria (available to the student on demand). The supervisor mark will have a weight of 50%, and the two ULiege moderators will have 25% each.

The student must organize the practical details of the internship (travel, accommodation if necessary, etc)
There is no salary associated to the internship, nor any other means of financial compensation.
The topic of the internship (title, short description, host institution, name of host) has to be provided to the board of studies in Oceanography for approval before starting the internship.
