Learning unit contents

The course aims to place some contemporary realities of work in a historical perspective, and to initiate the students in the practice of historical research. The course is made up of two parts.
After a brief reminder of the characteristics of the historical process and the contribution it can make to students and researchers in the social sciences, the first part of the course begins with an introduction to the issue which will be examined, in the field of occupational health and safety history.
The second part of the course takes the form of a condensed historical seminar where the students are called upon to deal with a precise point relating to a historical question, using different kinds of sources.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, students will be able to better understand some aspects of the today working life, putted back in their historical context.

The course is a seminary, where the students are systematically invited to present their results and to discuss the work in progress. Contrary to the description of the course (30 hours, Theory), it is a seminary and consequently a course in which theory and practice are complementary.

Assessment methods and criteria

Assessment will consist of a discussion, in the light of the course, on written works handed in at the end of the seminar.
