Learning unit contents

The course is an introduction to the key concepts in the sociology of immigration and integration (assimilation, citizenshi, culture, ethnicity, interculturalism, racism, transnationalism, asylum, migration)

At the end of the course, the student should be able to use these concepts to analyse social situations

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

MODE OF DELIVERY: FACE-TO-FACE.The course consists in about 10 sessions (2 hours each) plus the complusory participation in a few lectures organized by CEDEM. The presence in class is highly recommended. Powerpoint supports will be distributed at the end of the semester.
  Attendance is highly recommended. Following the MOOC of CEDEM on the plateform France Université Numérique is also suggested (www.fun-mooc.fr). More detailed information will given during class about the online opening of the sessions.

Assessment methods and criteria

First Session: In the written evaluation, particular attention will be given to the ability of the student to practice the epistemological break and get out of pre-concepts and common sense. During the written exam, the student will problematize the sociological issues at the center of the course through the analysis of a situation identified in the recent events related to migration, citizenship and intercultural relations.
