Learning unit contents

Biodiversité et Ecologie urbaine

Biodiversity and urban ecology
We will first give an introduction to the recent evolution in ecology thinking from natural habitat to urban ecosystems. Then we will explore key concepts on the links between biodiversity and urban environment : ecosystem services, biophily, green infrastructure, novel ecosystems, green buildings.

Protection urbaine des végétaux

Partim Phytopathology (3h)
Different control methods against fungi, bacteria and viruses that are adapted to urban environement will be described. These methods are based on micro-organisms, micro-organisms or organisms extracts, soft chemical control. Legislation of phytoprotection will be also presented. The methods of applications will be explain. Plant stresses due to pollution will be also presented and methods to avoid them.

Législation en Agriculture urbaine

Hazards and Risks: nature and origin of contaminants in urban primary production
Basic rules of Hygiene and Good Practices in production to prevent food risks
European and Belgian regulatory framework (self monitoring and official controls)

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Biodiversité et Ecologie urbaine

To understand key challenges for developing biodiversity in urban environment. Acquire basic ecological knowledge to integrate urban agriculture into green infrastructures.

Protection urbaine des végétaux

The objectives are: Partim Phytopathology (3h)
-To have a global vision of control methods suitable for the cities, -To be aware of the complexity of implementation of these systems, regarding legislative constraints, -To know the impact of pollutants on plants and the methods to avoid them

Législation en Agriculture urbaine

The objectives are:
