Learning unit contents
Basic Definitions :
State variables, temperature, Principle zero, transformations, properties of substances.
Heat and heat transfer, First law of thermodynamics, application to open and closed systems, heat budgets.
Second law of thermodynamics: statements, application to cyclic transformations, efficiency, Carnot engine, Entropy, entropy budget.
The physical principles are illustrated with experiments performed during the lectures.

- Fundamental physics laws.
- Initiation to scientific reasoning.
- Initiation problem resolution (translation in a formal language, resolution of the formal problem, solution analysis and interpretation).
- Orders of magnitude and approximations.
