Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This cours contains two different parts, the first one concerning the biophysics and given by Prof. Hoebeke, and a second part concerning some selected topics of solid state physics and presented by Prof. Silhanek.
The concepts that will be introduced and discussed are,
Membrane biophysics
- Dynamics of biomolecules
-Vision biophysics
-Nerve cells
Solid state physics
- Electric transport
- Magnetism
- Superconductivity
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course the students will be able to understand the electric properties of materials and their magnetic response.
In biophysics part, the student will be able to better understand the connection between the physical and biomedical sciences and the contribution of physics to the understanding understanding of lifeprocesses
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
This course is the natural continuation of the following lectures,
Introduction à la Physique des matériaux - Philippe GHOSEZ
Physique expérimentale : électronique et instrumentation - Duy NGUYEN
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- The time schedule it is available at the web site of the ULg.
- The cours consists of 15 lectures of 2h each (5 lectures devoted to the biophysics, and 10 lectures for the physics of materials).
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Recommended or required readings
At end of each lecture the slides will be distributed. Some reference book for the physics of material's part of the course are listed below,
- Harald Ibach, Hans Lüth, "Solid-State Physics"
- Stephen Blundell, "Magnetism in Condensed Matter"
- M. Tinkham, "Introduction to Superconductivity"
