Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Introduction to radiology, nuclear medicine and tomography reconstruction techniques used by these medical imaging modalities and a practical teaching on digital images.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course the student will be able
to describe and explain the physics of conventionnal radiology (analogic or digital images),
to describe and explain the physics of CT-scan,
to describe and explain the physics of in-vivo diagnostic nuclear medicine (scintigraphy and positron emission tomography),
to describe and explain the mathematics of the problem of tomography reconstruction and some of the methods to solve this problem,
to use a software of medical image processing.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Courses PHYS0093 & PHYS2009 of Bachelor in physical sciences or equivalent courses.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Mainly theoretical course. Practice with digital images is self-learning.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Face-to-face. Practice with digital images is self-learning.
Recommended or required readings
Text documents and slides are downloadable (eCampus).
The section devoted to tomography reconstruction is based on the book (in french) "Reconstruction tomographique: première approche" by A. Seret et M. Defrise (2014) published at the Presses Universitaires de Liège.
