Learning unit contents
This course is a follow-up of the #I.
It intends to study deeper several aspects of astronomic imaging :
- optical design using ray-tracing
- spectrographs and interferometers
- optical technologies over the spectral band (from RX to µ-waves)
- technologies for large terrestrial telescopes and deployable space telescopes.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course should bring the level of understanding to a level where physics and technologies of modern astronomical instruments are covered. Active participation of students is required.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Course "Instrumental optics I" or equivalent. The success of the course I being a prerequisite, it is not allowed to follow the course I and II during the same academic year
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
30h of experiments are covered through several activities:
- Ray-tracing analysis
- Laboratory
- Research centre and Company visits
- Seminars (at CSL and AGO department )
- Personal research program
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
The course is teached at the second period only. Theory is teached once a week (2-3h).
Recommended or required readings
Students have access to slides copy (pdf).
Several scientific books are available. They are mainly dedicated to the preparation of a personal research study.
Assessment methods and criteria
Experimental activities and personal researches are evaluated during the period and are quoted to 50%.
Oral exam is organized to check the level of understanding of the students. 50% is attributed to this exam.
According to the "paysage" decree, the certification is validated from a notation = 10/20.
