Learning unit contents

Introduction to ethical modern philosophy, in an historical perspective, from Pic de la Mirandole and Montaigne to Sartre and Arendt.
Freedom - liberty will be the key-question of this course.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Introduction to major and key issues in moral philosophy.

Recommended or required readings

Philosophy students must read three textes for the oral exam. For example : Les origines de la pensée grecque (Vernant), a chapter from Les Essais (Montaigne), Race et Histoire (Lévi-Strauss)...
I will present the texts to read at first session.
Other students (coming from Communication, Romane,...) don't have to read these texts.
 

Assessment methods and criteria

Students in Philosophy: oral examination. All the others: written examination. May/June
