Learning unit contents

Nervous system - Shared concepts in medicine and dentistry

Anatomy - 6 courses: introduction to the anatomy of the nervous system (4 courses, with the exception of the peripheral nervous system, see locomotor module), vegetative nervous system (1 course) and cranial nerves (1 course).
Physiology - 4 courses and 5 chapters: global model of the nervous system, sensory systems, motor systems, cognition and intrinsic systems
Neurological systems - 3 courses: vegetative and somatic sensorimotor systems, pain, emotions and cranial sensorimotor function.
The objective of this first part of the neuroscientific module is to introduce medical and dentistry students to the fundamentals of anatomy (and key embryological concepts) and physiology of the nervous system and special sense organs.

Nervous system - Specific concepts in dentistry

The objective of this specific unit for dentistery students is to deepend the understanding of the key aspects of neurological function for the practice of dentistry: cranial nerve anatomy, pain and vegetative functions.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Nervous system - Shared concepts in medicine and dentistry

This learning unit, common to medical and dentistery students, provides the necessary neuroanatomical and neurophysiological basis for the immediately following courses NERF0130-B-a et NERF0130-C-a, as well as the rest of the curriculum.

Nervous system - Specific concepts in dentistry

At the end of this unit, students will be able to understand the key aspects of pain, emotion and visceral reactions of the nervous system which are relevant to their future practice. Precise objectives are provided separately.
