Learning unit contents

This course addresses various specialized topics in metals engineering, among the following:

  • Solidification of metals and metallic alloys.
  • Thermal and thermomecanical treatment of metals and alloys.
  • Corrosion and surface treatment of metals.
  • Metal matrix composites, including their processing methods and specific usage properties.
  • Structural adhesion.
  • Non destructives testings.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Understand and control the relations between the processing method and parameters, the (micro-)structure of a metallic material and its usage properties.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

PHYS0904 Physics of materials (Part metallic materials), or similar formation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course comprises a series of ex-cathedra lectures.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Face-to-face

Recommended or required readings

Powerpoint presentations and publications from scientific literature will be made available for the students via internet (details will be given in class).
