Learning unit contents

  • Critical and historical approach to para-literary genres, from popular novels and romantic novels to SF books or crime novels.
  • Construction of a problematic regarding artistic vs. popular literature as a fundamental distinction operating in the francophone cultural universe.
  • Introduction to different literary genres.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • To understand and explicate in a historical and sociological manner the emergence of para-literature in the 19th, 20th and 21th centuries.
  • Enable students to formulate problems within these genres and their relationship with the general literature.

Lectures, using interactions with students and reading reviews.

Face-to-face. Student participation required.
