Learning unit contents

This course provides an introduction into the sensory, motor and cognitive mechanisms underlying the perception and production of human loral anguage. The normal and abnormal development of these mechanisms will also be discussed.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The student will get familiarized with the cognitive mechanisms that underlie the (receptive and productive) processing of phonetic, phonological, prosodic and lexical aspects of human speech. The student will get familiarized with recent theoretical models of speech perception. The student will get familiarized with the factors that underlie the development of speech perception and production, including vocal production. Finally, the student will be trained in the use of psycholinguistic databases.

- Lectures - Practical work and exercises: use of psycholinguistic databases, use of sound processing software, analysis of spectrograms, learning of phonetic script and phonetic transcriptions
