Learning unit contents
This course is intended for 2nd year law students. The course will mainly focus on the reading comprehension of simple law-related texts. It will centered on:
- the acquisition of basic general and legal vocabulary
- the study of basic grammar
- the reading comprehension of simple law-related texts
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim is to provide the necessary linguisitic and reading skills to enable students to attend the 3rd year course "Lecture de textes juridiques en néerlandais".
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
No prerequisite, but some basic knowledge is advisable.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- Reading comprehension exercises
- Study and acquisition of basic common and legal vocabulary
- Identification of specific elements in a sentence/paragraph
- Various translation activities
- Study of basic grammar: conjugation, sentence structure, ...
- Activities on how to use a dictionary effectively
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
2 hours/week during the second term.
Attendance is compulsory. Students are required to prepare activities and exercises on a weekly basis as requested by the teacher. Regular attendance is mandatory.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam of 2 hours
The exam will be based on:
- the material taught in class (vocabulary, grammar, translation, reading comprehension, ...)
- one or several short sight texts (vocabulary, translation, reading comprehension,..)
