Learning unit contents
Approach (definition and theory) - The Site (formation, nature, alterations) - Preparatory file - Survey - Grid system - Test pits - Excavation techniques - Screening - Spatial distribution - Chronological relations - Photography - Drawings (profiles, plans, treatment of images) and moulds - Sampling (natural and physical sciences, witness profiles) - Preservation - Field notebook - Inventory - Artefact drawing - Publication.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course presents all components of fieldwork, including research structure and practice in the field. Themes developed follow the logical progress of mounting an archaeological expedition and is complemented by development of the theoretical aspects relevant for each step.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Duration and period: 30h + 10 days of field training (1st and 2nd terms).
Classroom and schedule: Monday, 2-3 pm ; 1st term : Auditorium A4/S100, 2nd term : Auditorium A4/S100.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, including field school evaluation. Exam session in June.
The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 10% of the June final grade if > or = 10/20 (the mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20). Please note that the final exam for this course is cumulative.
Work placement(s)
10 days of participation in field training.
