Learning unit contents

This course will include the following elements:

  • In relation to the planning of work:
-Basic notions of construction planning -Technical organization and coordination -Work planning techniques (PERT method, the potentials method,) -Managing deadlines -Financial planning -Tracking -Coordination of health and safety for temporary and mobile construction jobs
  • Coordination of construction jobs:
 The coordination of construction projects will be integrated into the practical cases analyzed by the students within the framework of their practical work. The coordination of work is to be associated with site safety in such a way as to avoid the occurrence of accidents in the workplace.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Students will become familiar with the general problem of planning activities for design consultants and general services and also for construction jobs and companies. In order to optimize the organization of companies, a very rigorous planning of activities for these companies will be necessary. The students will become familiar with this problem by means of practical cases which they will have to solve in groups. Safety management will be integrated into planning.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Reading architecture and engineering plans. Reading specifications and inventories.
Usual modes of construction and general management of a construction project.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

After an ex-cathedra course, the students will have to develop the planning for a construction project in groups of two, which they will have to research themselves in the industry with the assistance of supervisors.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

This course will be given at the University of Liege.
Theoretical course face-to-face.
Practical work in the presence of a visiting lecturer.

Recommended or required readings

The material for presenting the theoretical course will be delivered by computer as the course progresses.
No particular reading is recommended with regard to this course.

Assessment methods and criteria

The students will be assessed individually based on the result of their practical planning work on a construction project as mentioned above.
