Learning unit contents
The course on contemporary documentary (cinema, video, television) focuses exclusively on the analysis of some particularly popular contemporary documentary subgenres: performative documentary, mockumentary, web documentary, "survival" realtiy tv shows, a.o. Through these films, the participants will discover and question the latest theoretical findings in the field of the analysis of documentary cinema.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Through films and recent theoretical texts, the students will develop analytical skills in the field of contemporary documentary cinema, at the crossroads of media analysis and film studies.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Passive knowledge of English.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course will rely on the watching and the analysis of documentary films. The analysis will be developped in class through discussions with the students. Each session will end with a q&a on the texts (see "required readings").
