Language(s) of instruction
French language
Organisation and examination
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Topics : Aggregation states of the matter, atomic and molecular structures, chemical bondings, chemical equilibria, pH, redox
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- Acquire some basic tools of chemistry necessary for biomedical sciences
- Use and apply correctly these tools including reasoning ability, the learning and understanding of the concepts in various situations.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Knowledge of some backgrounds of mathematics of the secondary level.
Good knowledge of French language.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
4 laboratories are programmed to enable the students to apply and sense by themselves the practical involvements of the theoretical lecture.
Directed exercises are organized on the whole course
Remediation sessions are also organized for interested students.
Formative interrogations are available on the e-campus platform.
During magistral lectures, concepts will rely on concrete questions of the biomedical field and on every-day life problems. They will be illustrated by demonstration experiments on video.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Face-to-face
Recommended or required readings
Lecture notes : They are available during the first weeks of the quadrimester. They consist in a book entitled "Introduction à la chimie pour les sciences biomédicales" Partim 1, by C. Jérôme, of 6 chapters. The slides used during the lectures, and the training exercises will also be available during the year via e-campus.
Assessment methods and criteria
The written examination will be organized as multiple choice questions on theoretical and problem solving aspects of the lectures.
The final quotation will be calculated as follows :
20% for laboratories (obtained during the quadrimester)
80% for the QCM examination.
The global quotation will be the averaged on 20.
During the quadrimester, students can train themselves on the e-campus platform.
Work placement(s)
Organizational remarks
The laboratories are mandatory.
A report will be asked for each laboratory to all students and QCM/QROC questions will be asked.
