Learning unit contents

After a history of the concept of "mise-en-scene", the course proposes, in his first part, an analysis of the staging of actions and elements for theatre, cinema and television.
In the second part, the course will be devoted to the articulation between the process of "mise-en-scène" and the notion of choregraphic act. A large number of dancefilms will be studied.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • To sensitize the students to the problematics of « mise-en-scene »
  • To develop analytical faculties of the students.
  • To sensitize the students to the complex notion of choregraphic creation. 
  • To sensitize the students to the interweaves between cinema studies and dance research. 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

General knowledge of the history and the language of the cinema and the concepts of theatre's history.

The course requires the active participation of the students.
