Learning unit contents

The objective is to acquire a general culture about the history of the city and about the history of the town planning design.
The course provides an overview about the main phases of the history of the town : Middles Ages, the town coming from the Industrial révolution, Haussmann, « progressist » and « culturalist » currents of thought, Contemporary city.
Set of theme are approached in a historical prospect : mobility, periurbanization, the Haussmann's print on Paris.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To understand the essential steps in the history of the town and in town planning design in relation to social, political and economic history.
Be able to built a critical step by examination of scientifics documents about the history of the city and about the history of the town planning design.
Critical step means : be able to peel documents, to insert them in the continuum of the course, to prolong them by definition of research tracks.

History of Art and Architecture courses in the Baccalaureat.
Social sciences Baccalaureat courses.
