Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
While semiology has not lived up to the excessive expectations attributed to it by structuralists by becoming the flagship subject among social sciences, it remains nevertheless an indispensable fundamental discipline for those wishing to understand architecture and town planning as a means of communication, as a "language", or to use the Françoise Choay's expression, as a "non-verbal system of signifiers".
This is what we propose to illustrate through the analysis of examples which, from Le Corbusier to Koolhaas, have paved the way for architectural theory from the 20th century to the present day.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
To develop the students' theoretical knowledge (knowledge of contemporary architecture and theory of architecture) by dealing with the emergence of architectural postmodernity from the point of view of structuralism and by assessing the knowledge acquired from semiology applied to the art of building.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The knowledge acquired in the history of architecture, theory, philosophy and human science courses, etc., during the first bachelor's cycle.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Depending on the number of students, the course will be taught in lectures (with the help of PowerPoint presentations, extracts from documentaries, etc.) or seminars.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
