ARCH 1637-2 "STUDIO 1/1" option: workshop C, LEVEL 2  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON WORKSHOP C  (VISITS AND PRESENTATIONS) AGAINST AND WITH ARCHITECTURE  Development of materials,  Execution... General overview: The year's programme includes

  • Presentations from professionals, both on architecture and materials
  • Commented visits of built works
  • Commented visits of places where materials are worked (ironworking, woodworking...) 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

In preparation for workshop C, this series of visits and presentations allows students to learn about the actual execution of the architectural elements they have studied, with speakers sharing about their own studies and personal experience with the topic at hand, but also with interventions by professionals working with materials. These visits and presentations vary according to the given programmes, and are directly related to the programme and the site studied. The 2 credits, i.e. 24 hours' worth of classes, are divided into two-hour sessions (or grouped into half-days) in the first and second term, depending on the schedule of the speakers' ongoing or finished projects.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

* ARCH 1654-1 WORKSHOP C STUDIO 1/1 level 2 is required for students choosing this course on interventions on existing buildings

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

1st and 2nd term On the basis of the workshop course, students can attend presentations and take part in visits of works related to the course's topic as well as in visits of building and craft workshops

Assessment methods and criteria

Attendance is required at the workshop, visits and presentations, in order for teachers to keep track of the students' work: Project related to the workshop visits, to be determined with the teachers Evaluation criteria: * Evaluation is carried out by teachers, possibly with specific experts or project clients; as a part of their work on workshop C, students make one oral presentation for each topic studied, integrating it into their final project's presentation book, which will be used to evaluate the integration of the data presented
