Learning unit contents
The aim of this course is to introduce 2D and 3D design software. By the end of the year, students will be capable of using these tools during their projects.
The theoretical introduction to this course looks at the role of digital culture in architecture: the use of a variety of software tools depending on the objectives in question.
Following this introduction, the course will mainly take the form of workshop classes, preceded by short presentations of the IT tools used to conduct the exercise.
Acquiring a rigorous working method is indispensable for learning and using all digital resources which students will encounter during their course.
This rigorous working method will be required in order to successfully implement the various tools and multiple exchange formats required when using them.
The following themes are central to this teaching unit :
The course programme will cover 2D and 3D modelling.
1. Theoretical introduction on the role of digital culture in architecture
2. Theoretical approach to 2D design
3. Exercises using a 2D drawing tool
4. Theoretical approach to 3D design
5. Exercising using 3D CAD software
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Part 1: Connection to the competency framework :
All teaching from the Study and Representation of Space and Form DER will enable students to develop specific competences mentioned in the Faculty's competency framework, by guiding them more specifically to developing the following competences
Developing a spatial approach through an analytical approach
. Designing an inter-scalar space: appropriating graphic language as a design tool
Interacting with all stakeholders
. Communicating research progress: mastering graphic languages as tools for sharing ideas
Part 2: learning outcomes from the teaching unit described from an operational point of view
. Recognise: memorise facts, procedures and knowledge by reproducing or developing a graphic document using 2D or 3D tools.
. Understand: use the digital tools introduced during the teaching unit to rewrite and express the elements set out in the instructions or project.
. Analyse: understand the context, analyse information, examine and subdivide into components to reveal the organisational structure, function and connections of a project.
. Formulate: a mature analysis on the use of 2D and 3D software. Students must generate, imagine and invent a relevant individual response within the context of their projects and respecting instructions and procedures.
. Manage: and control the graphic process, coordinate the stages of production of prepress views.
. Evaluate: students must be able to self-assess and self-critique in light of the on-screen results in order to obtain a relevant final paper. Make relevant creative choices which are appropriate to the situation and develop a graphic process.
Evaluation: of knowledge (theoretical evaluation), of know-how (practical evaluation -workshop) and presence in class.
Future graduates must be able to visually communicate, taking into account the professional, artistic, human and citizenship dimensions of the architectural project, which are the focus of this training and the objectives of the learning outcomes.

To enrol for this teaching unit, students must have previously acquired the following credits :

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Practical exercise sessions are preceded by a theoretical introduction ; Exercise sessions are supervised by teaching staff; at the end of each session, students submit their exercise on Webarchi. For the final exercises (2D and 3D), students will finalise their exercises at home and submit them on Webarchi within the given timescale.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
All practical work should be submitted on Webarchi; presence at practical sessions is compulsory.

Continuous assessment on the basis of work throughout the year

A presence less than 50% of the time leads to a rating = zero
for the practical part, even if the student submit his work.

I do not wish to permit auditors into my classes, essentially for organisational reasons.
I do not wish to permit ERASMUS students into my classes.
Students who are not repeating a year will be divided into groups of 25 students
