Learning unit contents
The course comprises three parts:1.
1. an overview of architectural history basics, from the greco-roman antiquity until the end of the nineteeth century, addressing the following issues (2h/week):
- history of architecture as discipline;
- the architect through history;
- the orders;
- history of the city;
- the christian church from Constantine to Viollet-le-Duc;
- domestic architecture;
- "heritage" through time;
2. lessons on specialised vocabulary, including self-assessment tests (1h max./week)
3. specialised lectures and readings putting the students in contact with some contemporary challenges of the research in histoy of architecture (max 1 h/week).
At the same time, the students work in groups on an exercise that is taken into consideration for the final result.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course aims at acquiring a good understanding of the important historical trends in architecture and at acquiring a specific and precise vocabulary.
It constitutes a first contact with research in the field of architectural history.

Test on vocabulary are organised in the course of the year; a waiver test on vocabulary takes place during one of the last lessons.
