Teaching in the second semester
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course is intended to bring to the students three complementary and mandatory activities: 1. The active participation to pedagogic activity related to physics experiment sessions with students (mainly) from Bachelor degree. 2. The achievement of original physics experiments. Students will have to imagine and mount themselves from equipment available in the lab. 3. The achievement of an external observation training session, in Research Institutes, Industries or even secondary schools.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The main objective of this course is to make the students discover the multiple facets of Physician's job. This approach should help them to make a choice between the orientations that they will face when entering in Master degree.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Notions of TeX editor, learned during the Bachelor in Physics, will be very helpful to prepare the required reports.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
There is no experimental directed activities but students will be facing to an experimental work requiring a personal research
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
During second four-month period, participation to the pedagogic activity related to physics experiment sessions (2 x 3 h), external training session and lab experiments will be prepared. Timetable will be given at the beginning of the period.
Recommended or required readings
No note course is foreseen. However, in the frame of the pedagogical preparation of physics experiment sessions, a copy of the booklet which is distributed to the Bachelor students to be supported will be available.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final grade will be weighted following the rule below:
1. Pedagogical experiment sessions: 30%
2. Lab experiments: 40%
3. External training sessions: 30%
In case of non-attendance to one of these sessions, without official motivation (disease or exceptional circumstances), the final mark will be entered as 'ABSENT'.
If a second exam session is required, no additional training session is organized.
Instead, a re-writing of the training or lab report(s) or a new oral presentation report would be organized. Moreover, if the student weakness is related to the pedagogical experiment sessions, an oral exam would consist in presenting a physic experiment (concept explanation) and performing it in the laboratory.
Work placement(s)
The external training session (2 observation days) is usually organized during a week of the second four-month period. The final agenda will be determined jointly by the training responsible and the student.
