Learning unit contents
The course is held every odd year (2015-2016, 2017-2018, 2019-2020,...). The objective of this course is to study and analyze the political and economic causes of crises and conflicts in the Middle East particularly since the collapse of the Soviet Union. We will first deepen the different theoretical concepts to explain the concepts of war, conflict, terrorism and political crisis including the nation state crisis. In this context, the legal and political foundations of war and peace will be studied. We then analyze the main characteristics of the Middle East from a historical point of view, economic, political and strategic, to show the importance of this region in international politics. In this part, the course will examine the role of different ideological and religious trends in the evolution of international relations in the Middle East marked by the rivalry between Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Finally, we will conduct a comparative study of the various conflicts since 1991. In this perspective, we will clear the consequences of the invasion of Iraq by the United States in 2003 on the new power configuration in the Middle East and the outbreak of various wars in this region. These include the conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

This course includes a theoretical part presented by the holder and a part based on the presentation of the students.
