Learning unit contents
The lecture investigates the handling of vehicle while cornering and manoeuvering. The following points will be studied.
- Introduction to vehicle dynamics
- Tire mechanics
- Steady state cornering
- Suspension mechanics
- Influence of suspension mechanics and roll motion on vehicle handling,
- Data acquisition : instrumentation and measurement techniques
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- To master the fundamental concepts of vehicle handling and the relationships with the design variables.
- To be able to make a simple model of the vehicle dynamics using MATLAB
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Knowledge in Theoretical Mechanics, Machine Design and Construction, Vibration of Mechanical Systems, Control Systems.

- Practical work sessions (exercises)
- Computer work sessions (MATLAB)
- Race tracks and proving ground testing.

- Seminars by experts of the field
- The lectures can be given in English, in ULG Sart Tilman Campus and in Campus Automobile in Spa Fracorchamps from November to December (second half of quarter 1)
