Learning unit contents

Raw material : powder production and characterisation Additive manufacturing processes : principles and consolidation mechanisms, critical parameters, post-treatments, relations between processing parameters, internal structure (porosities, microstructures...) and parts properties.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • Explain the physical and physico-chemical phenomena underlying the consolidation of a part produced by additive manufacturing.
  • Describe the relations between the processing and/or post-processing parameters, the structure of a part (porositiy, microstructures...) and its usage properties.
  • Describe and class the main additive manufacturing processes. Guide the choice between these processes.
  • Establish the state-of-the-art concerning a specific issue in relation with additive manufacturing, based on technical and scientific documentations. Give a clear and critical oral presentation.

PHYS0904 - Physique des matériaux (or similar formation)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course consists in 7 ex-cathedra lectures, in visits, and in a personal project (bibliography survey).

Powerpoint presentations and publications from scientific literature will be made available for the students via internet (details will be given in class).

Assessment methods and criteria

Assessment will be based on an oral exam, i.e. 40% on a presentation of the personal project, 60% on course materials.
