Learning unit contents

- Revision and further study of some grammar items; grammatical exercises. - Study of the vocabulary, written and oral activities based on broadcasts (VRT, VTM, ...) and/or articles from newspapers and magazines (Wablieft, Het Laatste Nieuws, Het Nieuwsblad, ...) These broadcasts and articles treat subjects of general interest (communication, society, environment, politics and education) and/or topics related to economic life (business, jobmarket). - Listening comprehension exercises (broadcasts from radio and TV).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Strategy: The course will allow students to demonstrate scientific precision and a critical mind.
Communication: The course will allow students to communicate internally and externally, about a company, organization or project.
Development of the 4 language skills (reading, listening, writing, speaking) in order to reach a good mastery of everyday Dutch.
Initiation to business Dutch.

The student should be able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. He can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. He should be able to produce simple texts on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. He can describe experiences and events, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Adaptability: The course will allow students to adapt their managerial practice to the needs of a fast-evolving world.
 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Knowledge of the basic grammatical rules, the basic vocabulary and everyday language which correspond to A2 level (CEFRL).(cfr courses LANG1908-1 et LANG2008-1)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

- during the lessons: grammatical explanations and grammar exercises; listening comprehension exercises; oral exercises (discussions about newspaper articles, role-plays, etc.); vocabulary exercises.
- at home: reading exercises; listening comprehension exercises; grammar and vocabulary exercises which the students have to prepare
- on the learning platform: additional grammar exercises

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

3 hours a week during the whole year
The students (25-30 in total for each group) are asked to be active during the lessons. They can at each moment ask questions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Various assessments throughout the year.


  • Written exam in January
  • Listening comprehension test at the end of each term/semester.
  • Oral and written exam at the end of the year
All this conditions are specified by the teacher at the beginnning of the year.

Oral exam in June 6/20
The different tests are compulsory. If the student doesn't present one of the tests, he obtains 0/20 as a global mark.
