Learning unit contents

As the course is common to several sections of various faculties (Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Public Health, Faculty of Psychology), an attention is granted to the diversity of the school and professional courses, but also to the waitings of students.
The course, teached by the professor and some external contributors, aims at sweeping the field of the sociology of ageing, in order to link at the same time theoretical topics (the large sociological theories which had an interest for  ageing-related themes) and concrete problems (mistreatment, dependence, active ageing, etc.)

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, the student will be able to remember and will have understood the main sociological and theoretical concepts met.
Especially, he will have acquired a critical glance on notions such as the dependence of elderly people, the older workers, the representations of old age...
He will be able to argue on these topics.

The course will use in particular the following methods: - presentations ex cathedra - framed debates - outside contributors

Two hours course each week, at the second semester.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written examination (if 30+ students) or oral (if < or = 30 students). At the second session of examination, type of exam to decide. Date of exam to decide with the teacher.
The contents of the slides and the concepts developed orally are concerned by the evaluation.
The students are evaluated on their restitution and their comprehension of the course, but also on their capacity to put in prospecs the concepts seen, to bring personal examples, or a critical glance.
