Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The objective is to give students an applied perspective of soil quality assesment. Introduction based on the European and Walloon legal texts. - Definition of soil quality. Identification of causes and consequences of pressures and threats on soil. - Soil sampling, practical caracterisation of main soil properties in the laboratory.  - Collective work on the study of soil threats applied to a given territory.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

After completing the course the student is expected to - have a good idea about threats on soils, - have a basic knowledge about soil analysis and teir limitations, - develop strategies of identification and monitoring, - suggest means of prevention and correction/interpretation.
The course contributes to following skills:
* Design a experimental protocol or a sampling protocol adapted to one given question and interpret results ;
* Assess the sustainability of practices of environmental management based upon existing data.
The course certifies:
* Adaptation of experimental or sampling protocols to a specific issue and interpret results ;
* Quantification of environmental threats in water-soil-plant-atmosphere systems

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Pédologie générale Pédogenèse, référentiels internationaux de classification et hydrodynamique des sols
