Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The lecture is centered on morphological effects of earthquakes and on the surface of volcanoes.
It covers various aspects of neotectonics, seismo-tectonics, seismology, tectonic geomorphology as well as the physics and geomorphology related to volcanic activity.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The goal is to understand the geological origin of earthquake and volcano hazards.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good knowledge of English and maths.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Analyses on maps, aerial and satellite imagery; microseismic measurements and data processing. 2 visits in the Roermond Valley Graben and the Hockai Fault Zone

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

8 lectures of 3h,
5 sessions of 3h of exercices and data processing. 2 days of fieldwork, combined with ambient noise measurements

Recommended or required readings

PPT files and other documents

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral Examination and presentaiton of project on a seismo-tectonic and/or volcanic region.
