Organisation and examination

Teaching in the first semester, review in January

Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

(1) carbonate diagenesis (mineralogy and petrology of carbonate minerals, diagenetic sequences). Methods include petrography, cathodoluminescence, isotopic geochemistry.

(2) Sedimentary basin analysis (sequential analyses, sedimentary models, cyclostratigraphy).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

(1) Recognition and interpretation of a diagenetic sequence. Use of cathodoluminescence and isotopic geochemistry.
(2) Interpretation of a sedimentary bassin, specially in terms of sea-level variations. What are climatic and orbital cycles, how can we interpret them and use them to improve temporal resolution

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

GEOL0018-1  Sédimentologie et pétrologie sédimentaire

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures with slides. Study of thin sections of carbonate rocks.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Face-to-face. Lectures and practical work in B18/B20.

Recommended or required readings

The slides will be available on MyUlg after each lecture.
