Learning unit contents
Landscape Quantitative Analysis
The course deals with a series of key concepts of landscape ecology useful to analyse objectively landscape dynamics and patterns. By means of theoretical courses, theoretical exercices and readings of scientific articles, concrete examples of quantitative landscape analyses are explained. The cours contents can change as a function of educational or scientific opportunities or constraints. For this course, landscape dynamics, landscape connectivity and landscape configuration will generally be emphasized.
Restoration Ecology
Ecological restoration is concerned with all the natural and assisted process that initiate or accelerate the resilience of damaged ecosystems. We will consider how ecological theory is used for facilitating ecosystem restoration. Planification, ethics and funding of ecogical restoration projects will be assesed through case studies and conferences.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Landscape Quantitative Analysis
At the end of the course, students are able to explain and use a series of techniques and concepts related to a quantitative analysis of landscapes in an ecological context.
Restoration Ecology
At the end of the teaching, you should be able to : - Assess the integrity of an ecosystem and its biodiversity - Propose a strategy to restore damaged eccosystems taking into account financial, ethics and societals opportunities.
