Learning unit contents

Presentation of the methodology of quantitative research: finalities, rules, materials, tools... Definition of terms (variable, item, representativity...). Explanations about the conception of questionnaire:, the sampling, the survey, the different types of questions and variables; the steps in the creation of a data set.
A practicle exercice is proposed. A theme is choosen by athematic  expert. The students participate individually / in group in the various stages of the work (from the step of documentation > the discussion about the first statistical results.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

to give skills to judge and understand the results of a quantitative research; to think and organize a survey.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

A regular and active presence is necessary and required. Any problem of organization must be mentioned as quickly as possible (/ first 15 days)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

As already mentioned, a practical exercise on the field is integrated into the theoretical course.

Necessary presence but outside tasks of investigation and survey will be asked

Notes will be available , according to needs. The reading of articles will be recommmanded and necessary

Assessment methods and criteria

written theoretical exam in june. 
every student will write a 'field-book' for mid-may
(= 1/4 of the final result)
