Organisation and examination

Teaching in the first semester, review in January

Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Synthesis of nano- and divided materials;
  • Study of their structure;
  • Shaping;
  • Properties expected by the final user;
  • Relation between the preparation process of a material and its final performances through its structure and physico-chemical properties;
  • Possible processes for the manufacture and the shaping at an industrial scale.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • examine questions that arise during the development of large scale manufacture processes of nano- or finely divided materials;
  • present possible technical solutions.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Chemistry and physics courses of the first cycle.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is composed of theory sessions and laboratories sessions. Those sessions are complementary.
Theory sessions introduce new concepts which are illustrated with numerous examples from academic and industrial research.
Laboratories sessions aim at illustrating theoretical notions. They consist in the synthesis and caracterization of a nanomaterial.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Face-to-face

Recommended or required readings

Copy of slides.

Assessment methods and criteria

Work in laboratory and report: 40% of the final note.
Final oral exam: 60% of the final note.

Work placement(s)

Organizational remarks

First quadrimestre.
