Introduction to the chemistry of living organisms: structural and dynamic aspects.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
General introduction to the properties of living matter at the molecular level.
1. Organic chemistry
2. Life strategy. The living cell.
3. Conservation and use of the genetic information. DNA, RNA and protein synthesis. Mutations, heredity and genetic engineering
4. Protein structure.
6. The functions of proteins.
7. Energy cycle. Energy and metabolism: glycolysis and photosynthesis.

General chemistry.
Chemical thermodynamics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- Exercises : organic chemistry applied to living matter
- Tutorials dedicated to the Pymol software use: observation and analysis of biological macromolecules structures. Courses illustration. Use of PDB database.

15- 4hr periods each comprising 2 hrs of theory and 2hrs of practicals
