| This course should allow you to :
- learn the history of academic thinking on integration, ethno-cultural diversity and multiculturalism; - deconstruct the public debate on these questions and argument your own position within it; - develop cross-cutting knowlege and increase your capacity to pu into perspective the different aspects of integration, ethno-cultural diversity and multiculturalism, but also to put into practice a dialectic and pluridiscriplinary analysis; - Critically analyse public policies of integration, diversity and multiculturalism and be capable to conduct personal reflexion. |

Prerequisite knowledge and skills :

| The course "Migrations, diversité culturelle et citoyenneté" is a prerquisite. For those students who have not followed this course, the CEDEM MOOC on the Platform France Université numérique is highly recommended (www.fun-mooc.fr) | ||

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

||
The course consist of a series of 7 lectures. 2 seminars will complement the programme and will be devoted to the oral presentation of the students' written assignments.

Assessment methods and criteria :
|
||
| The evaluation is based on the quality of the written assignment. This consist of an essay (5 to 7 pages). It will either focus on a the a theoretical discussion (E.g. the explanatory value of the segmented assimilation model) or on the analysis of a a public controversy (E.g. The headscarfe issue). The student will demonstrate her ability to provide an in-depth critical assesment of the arguments involved in the debate.
The theme of the written assignment should be submit by email by 1st March. A 1 to 2 pages summary will be submitted by the 1st April. The final paper will submitted by the 1st of May. |
