Learning unit contents :
The course is essentially clinical and address:
  • the theories of ageing;
  • a brief recall of systemic ageing effects;
  • pathologies and environment effects on diagnostic difficulties
  • the multidimensional context of several geriatric syndrome (fall, undernutrition, cognitive disorders, ...)
  • standardized geriatric assessment, functional diagnosis and related therapeutic management
  • Therapeutic particularities : iatrogenic pathologies and polypharmacy
  • Information about the development of technologies to help and maintain autonomy
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
  • To understand the detection of fragility to define the profile of elderly patient and to prevent fragility
  • To diagnose the pathology and its impact on preexisting deficiencies
  • To know the importance of functional diagnosis, the semiological particularities and trap
  • To pay attention to drug adverse effects and to geriatric assessment for therapeutic decisions
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Co and pre-requisites are detailed in the general Master Medical formation (global course program).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
This module is multidisciplinary and consists of lectures, supplemented by several sessions of practical activities. Clinical formations are included in another course code and complete the diagnosis learning by a patient-centered approach.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Face-to-face teaching.
