| Evidence-based practice (EBP) in the field of health is based on a 5-step process (known as the five A's: Ask, Access, Appraise, Apply, Audit). The first three steps clearly refer to the document search methodology. By the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. Choose which resources to draw from, especially bibliographical databases such as Medline, PsycInfo, SPORTDiscus, Scopus and Cochrane resources; 2. Use the advanced features of the main search engines: PubMed, Ovid, and EBSCOhost; 3. Use controlled vocabulary to construct complex efficient query syntax: MeSH (National Library of Medicine) language and APA (American Psychological Association) thesauri; 4. Use the quality indices available regarding bibliographic records in order to select the most relevant publications; 5. Use the basic functions of a bibliographic software management program such as Mendeley. | |||||
