Major challenges : - climate change - biodoversity - food 2. the concept of development and the way to sustainable development : conceptual and historical aspects 3. three dilemmas of sustainability : - prevention / precaution - non renewable resources : preserve or substitute

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
Introduction to sustainable development
1. knowledge acquisition on the history and controverse of sustainable development.
2. Toi understand th concept of sustainability, its ambiguities, its dilemmas - to sketch the historical stances of the concept - to define sustainable development regarding to othe theories - to define the main concepts included in sustainability (precaution, participation, solidarity, and so on)
3. to critically examine biodiversity, climate change and food
