Units courses prerequisite and corequisite :
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents :
The course has three objectives: 1° to study the discourse of Belgian editorialists in periods of crisis and their links with political and socio-economic ideologies; 2° to analyse the importance of 'formulas' (A. Krieg-Planque) and the 'new words of power'  (P. Durand) integrated into these discourses; 3° to assess the specific role of editorialists in the co-construction of public controversies of a socio-economic and/or political nature. The course also endeavours to prepare students for their dissertation based - in full or in part - on an analysis of media corpora.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
By the end of the course, students should be able to: 1° plan and produce certain types of dissertation, by mastering various methodological approaches associated with the analysis of media discourses;  2° critically analyse the discourses of Belgian editorialists in periods of crisis as well as their links with political and socio-economic ideologies;  3° analyse the importance of 'formulas' (A. Krieg-Planque) and the 'new words of power'  (P. Durand) integrated into these discourses;  4° better understand the specific role of editorialists in the co-construction of public controversies of a socio-economic and/or political nature.   This course therefore meets the need to train future professionals who are well aware of the responsibilities - especially in times of crisis - associated with journalists expressing themselves.
