| The course offers an introduction in the anthropology of childhood, youth and education and their links to general anthropology in different academic traditions. We will look at this history of these fields by focussing on different themes and/or approaches (categories and concepts of childhood, youth and education, social and symbolic construction of the person, development, daily life, marginalised children and youth, child and youth cultures, institutions, concepts of "agency", etc.) in light of work conducted in different societies both in the South and in the North. | |||||

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :

| Students will acquire a good historical knowledge of these fields and the reasons for different developments around the world. They will understand, through the examples studied in class, as well as conferences and readings, how to develop an anthropological position in the field of Childhood, Youth and Education and introduce the issue of childhood and youth in any anthropological work. They will also be able to do ethnographic fieldwork, to reconstruct and analyse ethnographical data produced during fieldwork with the theoretical tools of the anthropology of childhood and general anthropology. | |||||
