Learning unit contents :
The teaching this year is about auto-ethnography as a specific method in anthropology. 
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
Students will have a good knowledge of the autoethnographic method in anthropology. They will be able to explain it to M1 students, and they will have a practive of the autoethnographic methodolgoy.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
The previous attendance to Anthropology of communication is required
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course is organized according to the following steps :
During the first month, students read anthropological and sociological texts about autoethnography. They work collectively. They write a synthesis and prepare a teaching that they deliver to the M1 students at the beginning of November. Then they go on working and studying their texts, and at the same time they built their own fieldwork using the auto-ethnographic method. Each student is required to produce his/her own autoethnography, on a subject he is complitely free to choose. At the end of the semester, students present the result of their autoethnography to the group.

Assessment methods and criteria :
At the end of the semester students will produce an auto-ethnography that will be composed of two parts : an acacdemic and a non academic part. The link between the two parts must be carefully constructed. 
Marks will take the following items into account :
  • attendance and participation (10%)
  • quality of the academic part of the report (30%)
  • quality of the non academic part of the report (30%)
  • a critical reflexion about autoethnography and its value in anthropology (10%)
  • quality of the teaching given to the M1 students (20%)
