Presentation
Ultrasound is an integral part of any exploration of the thyroid; it is the scan examination which contributes the most information about this gland. Ultrasound has become indispensable for morphological explorations (goitre, nodules), and functional explorations (auto-immune hyper/hypothyroidism). This technique also allows suspicious nodules to be selected and the cytopuncture of the nodules to be targeted for diagnosis or to rule out thyroid cancer.
The interpretation of ultrasound images cannot be disassociated from clinical considerations incorporating the history of the illness, symptoms and biological and scintigraphic data.
