Course contents :

| The course aims to introduce students to different kinds of translation, different kinds of texts and various areas of knowledge.Special attention is devoted to sight translation. | ||||||||

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
||||||||
| By the end of the course students will have further developed translating responses, including the frequent need to rephrase the original.The blatant shortcomings of many source texts will have forced them to revise the common notion that a translation ought to be 'faithful to the original'. Since we cover various fields, thecourse also offers an opportunity to enlarge their knowledge and the world and to finetune their research methodology. | ||||||||

Prerequisite knowledge and skills :

| A good knowledge of English and an excellent knowledge of French. | ||||||||

| A large part of the course consists of exercises. | ||||||||

| Students active involvement in the course is a plus ; the final examination consists of a written test followed by an interview which gives students the opportunity to modify their translation and account for their choices. | ||||||||

| Professional translators will be invited as guest speakers. We also offer extra sessions on some Saturday afternoons coorganized with the Belgian Chamber of Translatorsn Interpreters and Philologists. | ||||||||
